I would just like to comment on your Grappa Giallo.
My wife and I have an extensive collection of spirits from around the world. When we saw the Grappa at out local store we decided this would be something we would love to try. After uncorking, the first sent was that similar to tequila. After pouring and sipping with a good cigar. (another of our passions) we noticed this tastes like a fine Bourbon.
Other guest we treated to this drink all commented the same thinking it was Bourbon.
My question is why only a 375ml bottle at $33? One can go out and choose from many 750ml bottles of premium Bourbon for the same price. Eagle Rare, Basil Hayden’s, Buffalo Trace,Elijah Craig, Knob Creek etc. Why would one spend $33 on a 375ml bottle of a spirit that does not really stand out. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fine beverage, but for the price and quantity I can not see us purchasing this again in the future or recommending it.
We consider ourselves connoisseurs of fine spirits and cigars, but we would be more inclined to have this as a regular in our collection if it was a 750lm bottle or priced accordingly with the 375ml bottle.
Thanks you and good luck in your venture
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the comment and the compliments. Although our Grappa Giallo may taste like a fine Bourbon, it is not a Bourbon. Remember that as with all fine things, we are limited by our ability to produce more. Since grappa comes from pomace (the solid remnants of wine production) it is a seasonal product. We are only able to produce it in the fall when wineries are crushing, and the pomace has a relatively short “shelf-life.” Not only that, because it is distilled from a solid as opposed to a liquid, like wine, its production is much more labor intensive. Consequently, we are limited to small batch runs of the best quality liquor we can produce – hence the 375ml and the $34 price tag.
We do hope you enjoyed the Giallo and will consider adding this rare American Grappa to your collection on a regualr basis.
